Well...we did it! We had Liam on 8-1-08 at 8:09am!
He is so incredible!!!
I was in labor for about 20 hours...so not too bad.
I had been on bed rest for almost 2 weeks before. I had to go into the hospital because my doctor wanted me to get a non-stress test to see how Liam was doing and I also had to get my labs drawn to make sure I was healthy. Some of my labs were a little irregular, though Liam still looked like he was doing well. My doctor didn't want to mess around though with my lab results so she decided to induce me Thursday afternoon. I was actually already having pretty regular contractions but the medicine sped up the process. Around 5:00am Friday morning I was in a lot of pain and I found out that I was fully dilated and crowning. The nurses had me start to push and then they told me to stop pushing because Liam was ready to come out but the doctor wasn't there yet. By the time Dr. Zakarian arrived I only had to push for about 15 minutes and out he came!
Labor was hard, for sure, but it didn't last long and he was so worth it!!!!
Here are some photos of the before and after (I decided to spare everyone, including myself, pictures of the actual labor :) ). John is holding his hands over Liam to give perspective of Liam's size.
My Mom said it was "love at first sight" when she saw him!
Liam has to be in the NICU due to his low blood sugar and low body temp-because he is so skinny and doesn't have much fat on him. The doctors and nurses are really sweet and Liam seems like he is doing well and won't have to be in the NICU for very long.
